Great Wall of China

Great Wall of China tour September 2015.

Day 1: Overnight flight from London

Day 2: Arrived at the Prime hotel Beijing at 11.00

and took a trip to see the Giant Pandas in the zoo
Day 3: I walked the Great Wall from Jiankou (wild) to Mutianyu (restored) taking 5 hours, meeting people along the way.
Day 4: Beihai park and Tiananmen Square
Forbidden City + Jingshan Park
Day 5: I walked on the Great Wall in two sections today: Huanghuacheng + Xiangshuihu
Day 6: Early start with 05.53 flag raising ceremony in Tiananmen square
followed by a trip to the Drum (below) and Bell (not shown) towers
Then off to the Temple of Heaven (park) + Lama Temple
Day 7: Three sections to walk today, Simatai + Jinshanling + Gubeikou
Day 8: Chinese cookery class
and an overnight train to Xian which took 12 hours but I did have a private cabin with a western style toilet
Day 9: Day in Xian: Terracotta army
and the bullet train (5 hours) up to 300km per hour back to Beijing
Day 10: Busy day today starting with a walk round the Summer palace (royal park) and a pleasant boat ride
then it was off to the Olympic park and a visit inside the water cube, followed by a walk past the birds nest arena
Then it was off to the Houhai lake bar area where the Chinese go to relax in the day and listen to live music in the evening
That evening I had dinner at the Black Sesame Kitchen with eight other travellers (19.00 - 22.00) and returned to the Houhai

bars for drinks and music till 02.00.

Day 11: Acrobat show, then a tour of the Hutongs before an evening trip on a boat with my guide and musician
Day 12: Three parts of the Great Wall today beginning with Badaling. Cable car up, sliding car down. Bear pit?
Then on to Shuiguan and finally Juyongguan pass
Day 13: Ming Tombs
Day 14: Queued for 3 hours to see Chairman Mao lying in state
+ trip to a nearby village with a nursery of 4 year old Chinese children, before trying my hand at face painting
Day 15: Fly to London
